Pedlars

Sue Beaven

In 1988 I was forced to retire from work as a librarian on medical grounds. However, I was not ready to sit in my rocking chair knitting or watching day-time T.V. for the rest of my life. Being stubborn, on being told by a friend that I would not be able to take up furniture restoration because I would not have the stamina required, I went on a training course to do just that! I enjoyed the process that took a shabby item and restored it to new life. However, I found I had a natural ability working with cane seating and am now a full-time cane seater.

I have fully restored cane-seated chairs for sale in the shop, and also undertake commissions to restore other people’s cane-seated furniture. I take great pleasure from the look on customers’ faces when I return to them a cherished piece of furniture which I have re-caned.

I don’t have my own website at present, but maybe, one day …
